Phytophthora-resistant potato
EN
SP951
No
The potato (Solanum tuberosum) was modified for Phytophthora infestans resistance through the expression of Solanum bulbocastanum late blight resistance gene 1, which confers broad resistance against P. infestans races. In addition, the modified potato contains an Escherichia coli neomycin phosphotransferase II cassette for kanamycin (or neomycin) selection during transformation.
EN
The term “Recipient organism” refers to an organism (either already modified or non-modified) that was subjected to genetic modification, whereas “Parental organisms” refers to those that were involved in cross breeding or cell fusion.

    Plasmid vector
The modified potato contains two gene cassettes: Escherichia coli neomycin phosphotransferase II (nptII) and Solanum bulbocastanum Phytophthora infestans resistance gene 1 (rpi1).

The nptII coding sequence is under control of a Cauliflower mosaic virus 35S promoter and an Agrobacterium tumefaciens octopine synthase terminators. High levels of transcription are expected due to the constitutive nature of the promoter.

The rpi1 gene was inserted under its own (rpi1) promoter and terminator.

Note:
  • Southern analysis confirmed that the parental genome contains a singular T-DNA insertion.
